Now in its 11th year, PROJECT SHAW has been the core series of Gingold Theatrical Group. Coined as "New York's monthly guide to reason," PROJECT SHAW presents monthly Monday night readings of the works of George Bernard Shaw. Each Shaw play is presented in a concert-reading format at New York City's literary center, Symphony Space. CLICK HERE FOR SYMPHONY SPACE
All readings are produced and directed by Gingold Theatrical Group Founding Artistic Director David Staller. Mr. Staller edits each play, using Shaw's extensive notes and essays.
We’ve done it!
Between 2006 and 2009, every sketch, full-length and one-act play by George Bernard Shaw has been performed as a concert reading with astonishing all-star casts. More than 60 of Shaw's plays, many never seen before in New York or anywhere in this country, have delighted our sold-out audiences. We are the first group ever to present performances of all of Shaw's plays, and all to sold-out houses!
And we're forging ahead!
January 2010 marked the beginning of a new beginning, in which we started all over again! The 2014 edition of this series will be branching out to include works by the people who most inspired Shaw to become a playwright: Ibsen, Chekhov and Wilde. Each event is presented one Monday a month, with a nominal admission fee of $30. In a radical departure from our buy-by-the-month policy, tickets are now on sale for the entire season at the Symphony Space box office. 212.864.5400 or click on the button below:
CAESAR AND CLEOPATRA cast 2016
PROJECT SHAW is open to the general public. Each month, a different Shaw play is presented as a staged reading. These performances are hosted by New York's legendary Symphony Space on New York's Upper West Side.
PROJECT SHAW was launched in January of 2006 with Arms and the Man. In December, 2009 we reached our goal of presenting all of Shaw's 65 plays to the public. GTG is the first group ever to accomplish this. Our plan is the continue PROJECT SHAW indefinitely.
Some of our country's finest actors have participated in PROJECT SHAW, and many more have pledged to join us in the future.
Shaw came to playwriting after years as a theatrical critic and arts journalist. From the beginning, PROJECT SHAW has intrigued members of the press. In view of this, each PROJECT SHAW performance features at least one member of the press. Since our agreement with Actors Equity Association stipulates that we not allow reviews of our performances, our press cast members have no conflict of interest and simply join in the fun. Please see our Press Page for a list of articles and television features about us.
"People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them."
